Laylo

Adam Spooner interviewing for Senior Fullstack EngineerVetted

Positive experience overall
  • Phone Screen

    Great chat with the CTO

  • Panel

This was a panel with a software engineer and the CTO. It was part technical and part vibe check. Another great round.

  • Challenge

This was the technical with a different software engineer and the CTO. It was two parts: a LeetCode-style challenge followed by a system design exercise. It was a lot to cover in an hourlong interview. The coding challenge was fair. It wasn't designed to trick you. It was designed to see whether you understand the programming language (TypeScript, in this case) well enough to let it do the work. It wasn't possible to use my normal framework for the system design exercise because there wasn't enough time. So, I mostly had to talk through the solution instead of using my 5-stage process. Regardless, I thought I did okay (not amazing, not terrible).

  • Panel

This was described as the vibe check interview. It was a panel of 4: CEO, CTO, and two other employees. The questions lined up well with the vibe-check theme: questions about how I handle difficult situations, etc.

  • Got an offer

Laylo's hiring process was great. Everyone I met was kind and professional. The read on their company culture is what you hope for during the interview process. They move quickly too, which is nice.
